Andrew thanks for the comment and of course its a valid concern but the way I see it is if you're going to do things like this or charity work you have to do it with an open heart and an optimistic mind. Having said that I did speak with the head of the Cuban national team in Argentina before speaking with Alonso to make sure it was OK. The bike is being transported to Cuba through somebody who

In theory this is agreat idea, but it does have a hitch. If you are able to donate a bike to to this guy there is no guarantee he will be the one to receive it. Because he is on the national team the bike will be taken from him and given(or parted out) to the best rider(s) on the National team. <BR/><BR/>I witnessed this first hand at the 2007 Tour of Cuba. From what you said about the opinions many of the Liquigas boys have of themselves, I reckon they're big enough to be able to send this guy and his teammates all of their bikes from last season. Now that would earn them some real respect.

Talk to Mike Fraysse...he runs or used to run the Pan American Solidarity Program to bring donated equipment, clothing, etc to the Cuban cycling teams. Most of the equipment they had down there was probably from him. He's always happy to help and can aid you in navigating all the restrictions it will take to get this done.
